Our approach
How we form the advice on this site
Last updated:
Our grooming advice starts from bookings, and every outside number on this site names its source.
How do you decide what to recommend?
Austin Mobile Dog Grooming recommends the standard choice: a full groom for a large dog every six weeks. Price and booking benchmarks come from published Austin sources that are named and linked. Where a detail depends on your dog or your address, it is noted and confirmation is requested when you book.
Where our schedule advice comes from
The six-week full groom discussed across this site is not a theory. It is presented as a starting point, and coat type or your dog's needs might shift it.
Where our price and lead-time numbers come from
Austin mobile grooming prices or booking lead times are quoted using figures published by other Austin mobile groomers and linked to them, so you can check them yourself. These are market benchmarks, not the price list. Sources used on this site:
- Brad's Mobile Pet Grooming: published full-groom starting prices by dog weight.
- Lucky Dog Mobile Groomers: advice to book a mobile groom 1 to 2 weeks in advance.
- ASPCA general dog care guide: general everyday dog care.
What we say when the answer depends on your dog
Some answers depend on the dog: how long a groom takes, the final price, or whether the van can park at your building. In those cases the general picture is given and exactly what to share when you book is specified. Guessing is avoided.
How we handle tipping and cost math
Tip examples on this site use the common 15 to 20 percent guideline applied to round prices. Yearly cost examples divide 52 weeks by a six-week interval and multiply by a published price, with the assumptions written out next to the result.
How we keep pages current
Every main page shows a “Last updated” date near the top. That date is changed only when the page is actually revised.

Mobile dog grooming in Austin commonly starts around $125 for small dogs and around $200 for large dogs. Brad’s Mobile Pet Grooming, for example, publishes full-groom prices from $125 for dogs 1 to 14 lbs up to from $200 for dogs 56 to 200 lbs. Ask us for your own dog’s price when you book.
More on this in the FAQHow far in advance should I book a mobile groomer in Austin?
Plan to book ahead. Lucky Dog Mobile Groomers, another Austin mobile service, advises booking 1 to 2 weeks in advance. If you are on a six-week schedule, the easiest habit is to ask about your next visit at the end of each groom so the timing stays steady.
More on this in the FAQHow often should you groom a dog?
For large dogs, every six weeks is the schedule most of our customers choose for a full groom. Coat type changes the ideal timing: long, curly, and double coats usually need regular grooming to stay free of mats, while short coats can stretch longer. Brushing at home between visits helps any coat.
More on this in the FAQHow much should I tip a mobile groomer?
A common guideline is 15 to 20 percent of the groom price. On a $200 full groom for a large dog, that is $30 to $40. Some owners tip toward the higher end after a difficult groom, such as heavy matting or a nervous dog, or during the holidays.
More on this in the FAQHow much does it cost to groom a large dog every six weeks for a year?
A six-week schedule works out to about 8 or 9 full grooms a year. At a published Austin price of $200 per large-dog groom (Brad’s Mobile Pet Grooming, dogs 56 to 200 lbs), that is roughly $1,600 to $1,800 a year. Ask us for your dog’s per-visit price to work out your own total.
